Software Engineer – Agent Systems
💼 Full-time • 💰 Competitive salary + equity + benefits
The Role
Join the Agent team building AI systems that interact with scientific tools, data, and workflows. You’ll design and maintain the capabilities our agent uses to reason, plan, and execute tasks -everything from Bayesian optimisation and literature retrieval to querying experimental databases and orchestrating quantum-chemistry simulations.
This is a deeply technical domain—ML, materials science, and experimental automation—and your software directly shapes real-world outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain agentic tools that access data, APIs, scientific workflows, and internal systems
- Develop data pipelines to ingest, store, and transform datasets for LLMs
- Implement and debug agentic patterns: multi-agent cooperation, goal decomposition, context management, autonomous execution
- Design responsive, real-time UIs using Svelte/React or similar frameworks
- Build reliable, observable systems with strong telemetry and diagnostics
- Work closely with ML engineers, scientists, and roboticists to push scientific automation forward
What You Bring
- 0→1 experience building agents and agentic workflows in production
- Python expertise (async, type checking, packaging); familiarity with modern agent/LLM tooling (LangChain, PydanticAI, etc.)
- Track record building tools that retrieve, process, and act on internal/external data
- Experience building data pipelines and LLM-ready datasets
- Strong debugging skills across agentic behaviour and autonomous patterns
- Frontend experience (Svelte/React or similar) with focus on state management and usability
- Comfort with logging/observability tools (structlog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Motivation for technical depth + direct product impact
Bonus Points
- Experience building SDKs or developer tooling
- Exposure to scientific computing, quantum chemistry, or ML-in-the-loop systems
- Familiarity with telemetry, structured logs, or time-series data
- Experience with hybrid on-prem/cloud environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
Why Join
- Work at the cutting edge of AI-accelerated scientific discovery
- Collaborate with world-class ML engineers, scientists, and automation experts
- High impact, high ownership in a mission-driven environment
- Competitive salary + equity + full benefits
- Unlimited PTO + 14+ company holidays
- Medical, dental, vision, mental-health support, and 401 (k)
